Cardio or Lifting?

Many would argue that cardio is a better workout and if you want to lose weight do cardio training. But athletes are supposed to lift to build muscle and not be so worried about cardio. Although science has proven cardio to be a good workout lifting is more beneficial for “shaping” your body. Lifting weights will help to tone your body and create definition and depending on the workout can be cardio.

Over time lifting weights works to strengthen your body but also create definition in your muscles. Even though it is proven more calories are burned during a cardio workout that will not give you the best results in the long run. People will argue cardio gets your heart rate up so its better for you when in reality weight training does the same thing but you are also able to build muscle in the process.

When building muscle you have to have a certain amount of calories along with weight training and to much cardio will burn those needed calories. This will then cause your body to burn muscles instead of the fat and calories and set you back in your progress.

In conclusion cardio can be good for you in small amounts but if your end goal is losing weight or toning your muscles lifting weights and doing weight training is the best way to achieve that. As for athletes their goal is should always be getting stronger and faster and the easiest way to do that is through weight training with some conditioning.
